The painting is inscribed, “From H. Pyle, To his Friends, the Rowlands.” The painting was reproduced as a vignette in limited color in the magazine. It does not appear in the book The Ruby of Kishmoor that appeared the following year. We believe that Pyle enlarged the vignette when he made a gift of the painting to the Rowlands.
